Don't Drink, Don't Smoke, What Do You Do?

So I'm totally a goody-goody.

And one of the annoying things that come as a part of that is the fact that I don't lie.
And herein lies the problem. You see, occasionally everyone has to lie. And I really don't know how to do it.

I wear my emotions on my face for anyone to see.

Today my boss asked me how I was. I didn't know how to answer the question. I wasn't OK at that moment. I was overwhelmed and floundering. Not something you really want to admit when you're still working on making a good impression.

Why couldn't I just plaster a big smile on my face and say that I was fine? I am quite literally incapable of doing so. And if I can't think of an acceptable half truth fast enough, then it's pretty damn obvious I'm lying anyhow.

I used to think that it was so noble and saint-like. Oooh Princess is so honest...
Whatev.

Sometimes I think there are reasons for it. I think if there are good reasons to do it, and they genuinely don't harm anyone, then they may have a purpose in this world.

But I can't do it. And I'm not so sure that it's a skill that I want to practice and perfect, you know?

So now I just have to be all awkward and pitiful...and completely open.

It's annoying.

I am a terrible liar too. On the whole I think it is a good thing, though occasionally I wish I could do it well. It has caused me to say some unpopular things at faculty board meetings in the past...

Adam Ant! No way! Who would have thought he made it over the pond. And I love these 80's videos!

Don't lie, Stand And Deliver baby!

Arrived via Gothblog (sorry but it happens), Read a bit, liked your smile, stayed a bit longer, will probably be back - and that's no lie.

It must be quite responsible to be princess of the universe. Very impressive ;-)

Yes, it's annoying, but ultimately, it will serve you. Honest.

Chief- yeah, I've occasionally noticed a distinct lack of any kind of sense of humour in the faculty around here.

AMC- Glad I made you happy!

Brom- thanks for stopping by!

Puss- I agree for the most part, but still....

Don't think of it as lying; think of it as telling a story.

I tell my little cute as a button 5-year-old niece, "if you don't lie, you don't have to remember the story(s)."

It's gotten me this far in life and I certainly can't complain now that I'm all growed up.

Well, let's get to the crux of the problem. No drinking? Princess, how do you expect to be taken advantage of if you don't drink? And yes, the ease of lying will follow.

Heh.. I can lie surprisingly well, but I only use my powers for good, not evil. Don't believe me? Check out what I orchestrated in the last 3 weeks....

I think you should meet the Probie, Princess. Sure, he turns 40 in a couple months, but he's a fun and funny guy (no idea why he and his wife divorced, I'm sure it'll come up, eventually).

Nance- I don't think I'm a very good story-teller either.

Jen- not whole big lies- just "I'm fantastic!" when I'm really not kind of lies...

Jason - From what I've read on your blog, I wouldn't need to be drinking to be willing to have you take advantage...

Dent- sure, send him on down!

It makes you open. I really don't like people who lie. So it explains why I like you so much.

*hugs*

I am terrible at this too... To look at me, you know what's going on. Happy, sad, overwhelmed - I'm an open book.

Laundry Fairy is the same. She tries to lie but is just no good at it. As my first wife cheated on me and I was having trust problems with women it was one of the things that endeared her to me.

It is probably part of your charm too
