La Bibliotheque

My father introduced me to the coolest place the other day.

Now, as previously mentioned I adore my Daddy. Worship the ground he walks on even. But I don't necessarily expect him to take me someplace new and cool.

This time he did.

A place where I could find romance and fantasy.
A place where I could meet new people and experience new things.
A place where I could really learn and grow.
And all of this I could do without spending a dime!!

The Library.

Why haven't I ever gone there before? I mean I did research and stuff to get my degree, but the thought never occurred to me to look at any book other than those dedicated to Shakespeare or Freud.

I have spent a LOT of money on books over the years.

When I would get grounded, not only would my TV privileges get taken away, I would also not be allowed to read. My parents knew this was a far greater punishment than losing the TV. (My friends at the time would look at me like I was crazy when I told them this...clearly I hadn't met the right friends yet).

And now....now I can read new authors! I can experiment with books that might turn out to be crap, because there are no consequences to it. I won't have a hateful book cluttering up my space. I won't regret the money I spent on such an inferior piece of literature. I can simply...return it. Unfinished even!

So I'm taking a poll - who else goes to the library?

Guy Gavriel Kay... woohoo! :)

I am constantly amazed at how many of my book-wormy friends never visit the library. Especially the newly fancified Millennium Library downtown. So pretty.

I go all the time. I constantly have 2-3 books checked out, and they recognise me by name and by beverage at the cafe. It's just fantastic! Happy librarying!

I haven't in a very long time, mostly because I don't know where it is in my city. I do however, go with my mom and get books out on her card when I'm in the city.

Oh baby--tell me. I was a Librarian at a University for 8 years. I loved to go upstairs and just sit in the middle of rows and rows of books. No matter how electronic my world gets...a book in my hand always makes me comfortable. And stacks 10 ft. high to the ceiling and rows and rows of amazing books....LOVE IT. ~~Dee

I love the library. But my local library is CRAP!

C.R.A.P!!!

Of all the Anne McCaffery books (she'd easily have 100) they have about 6. And they're all crap!!! The old library where I was staying with a friend had books, cd's, dvds, games, VHS, classes etc. I miss that library. It was awesome.

Sorry, she's got 95 books.

I use the University library - it has got a fantastic history section.

I haven't been to the public library since I was about 15...

I haven't checked a book out of a library in years, mostly because the libraries I've been in here aren't great. Or maybe I'm just reading the wrong stuff. I get very possessive of books and want to keep them, so I tend to buy a load used off of somewhere like Amazon. Currently reading Oscar & Lucinda, which is wonderful!!!!!

I love the library, but as I'm always so busy, returning things can be a problem as then one gets fined.

I do use the library, but not often enough, because every time I walk in I am reminded of how awesome it is and how I need to go more...

LOVE the library. Though I am notorious for late returns which sometimes I may as well have just bought the book with what I owe them. Oh well. We'll go spend an afternoon there with mck, she loves it too now.

I hate the library because you have to give the books back. To me, that's a bad deal.

Liz- I haven't made it to the Millenium yet- that should be my next stop!

Shana- You only have one?

Dee- Do they have any interesting books in a U library? Aren't they all research?

Phish- I'm ashamed to say I've never read Anne McCaffrey

Chief- but again- are there any fun books?

AmyT- I figure if I love a book enough to want to read it again, I will then buy it.

Puss- you're busier than any 4 people I know put together!

Z- I know! I can't believe it took me this long to discover it!

BPM- so far no late fees- but I came close this week...

Nance- well I suppose you could steal them...

In Welland, we have one... I think, I'm not even sure about that. I tend to consider this place Hicksville.
St. Kitts, where my mom is (and like 15 minutes away) there's 3 or 4 I think.
Again, one of the many many reasons I hate living in the stix.

I heart the library, but I heart having the books more! Even with all the moves I've done, I still loves 'em. . . .

What is wrong with me?

*cough* Okay, I'm just a random passerby, sorry to bother you, but I found this old "llamalicious" award you made for Dirty Filthy Princess back in '07 and I think it really kicks ass. I was wondering if I could ask your permission to use it (linking back to you, of course).

Thanks! Sorry for bothering you.

I use it when I'm on the road and need internet access, but to be honest, I haven't checked out a book since I was a kid.

I love, love, love the public library. I find that if there is a book that I REALLY have to read, I buy it since if I really want to read it, chances are 900 gazillion other people do to and the wait list for the library is long. But I love the idea of going there and finding books I'd never have thought to read.

Okay, I need to stop talking about my beloved library, I'm actually starting to swoon.
