This Post Barely Warrants One Comment, Let Alone 24

So I read a blog once (not naming names) that explained how they have their reader folders organized. "Must Reads" "B-List" etc and then there was one category that I think we can all relate to: "Really Nice but Boring". As soon as I read that category I realized, crap- if I'm even blessed enough to make it to his google reader, I'm totally in the "nice but dull" folder.

I mean even I consider this place to be kind of meh a lot of the time.

So I've decided that I need a thing. You know how all the cool blogs have some sort of thing? I need one.

Now before you all go rushing to the comment section to give me a pep talk, it's not necessary. I know this little kingdom has it's charm. But it's gotten kind of stagnant around here. I was going through my archives, and I realized that I've plateaued. The most comments I've ever received in a blog is 23.

Now 23 comments is absolutely awesome. But still. It's not like the folder guy above who doesn't bat an eyelash when he gets 100 comments.

So I've been thinking, you know, what should my thing be? I mean Hilly has both Snackie Sunday and her Confession Booth, Glamour Puss has Elegantly Dressed Wednesdays, Spanish Goth has his bible interpretations...what should I do?

Tiara Tuesdays? Uh yeah. I have no idea what that means. I just know that it seems like alliteration was key there.

I tried doing an advice column once. But see the thing is, in order to give advice? People totally need to ask for it. And I guess my special kind of crazy didn't inspire a lot of confidence in people.

I could totally do product reviews. But I'm not sure that anything really unique and cool comes to Winnipeg. And I don't have that many local readers.

I know, my special thing could be begging for comments? Like how it would totally rock my world if I got like 34 comments on this post. Yeah.

And then what do I do tomorrow exactly? Uh huh.

Any suggestions people? I mean when you think: "The Princess Diaries" what comes to mind? (I mean other than either Anne Hathaway, or the fact that I'm a nice girl, but this blog is kind of dull?)

I mean I could do features on blogs that I read, and I totally will. But that's just so....done.
And I could totally go on about my latest depressive crazy. That's super fun. Except for the fact that it's, you know, not.

Must think. I welcome any and all suggestions. Oh and comments. Let's get past that 23 comment slump mmmkay?

So I have to come up with something for both me and you? Yikes....hope I get creative soon.

I'm pretty sure that I'm in the folder as you:)

The thing I came up with on my blog was Scooter Sunday, which turned into Snowy Sunday once winter hit.

It wasn't planned that way. It just so happened that I liked riding my scooter on sundays. It just happened.

So what I'm saying is that thinking too hard about what to come up with may not be the answer. Start doing something and let it meld into a regular feature.

23 comments eh? Don't think I've ever gotten many. But I'm not willing to change.

Sex and religion get a lot of attention.

I think you should write letters to random people or things. You know the kind of letters I mean - the ones you mentally compose and wish you could broadcast them over a loudspeaker, but end up just keeping them to yourself. For example:

To the guy whose kids I babysit,

You should really clarify the difference between "liar" and "lawyer" with your 5 year old son, who thinks he wants to be a liar when he grows up because his daddy told him that liars make a lot of money.

Yours sincerely,

The Babysitter

or...

Dear Winter,

I thought I really loved you when you showered us with the first magical snowfall of the year back in December. It turns out it was just infatuation though. Sure, the chemistry is there between us, and I still totally get off on riding down your glistening mountain peaks (on a toboggan! Get your mind out of the gutter) but I'm afraid our affair has to end. That attraction is not enough to sustain us, so I'm breaking up with you.

Signed,

Hopping A Plane to California

Actually, I think Winnipeg is a test market, so there may be some interesting products to review.

I feel like I've plateaued. But, I just don't have the energy to devote to changing that. Not to mention having both my blog and the food blog.

You could do some spotlights on other bloggers. Who are these alliterative geniuses? Why do you read them? Why should we?

Just an idea...

I dunno, Prin. . . ? I mean, I like what you have got going on here. I sometimes think, why fix something that is not broken? But then, I understand about wanting higher comments, followers and readership. I often wonder why someone has "followed" me, but I've never ever seen them comment. Are they just saying they follow and don't? Or do they really? It's all so weird. . .

I'm of no use. Sorry.

You know, some of us that have "things" don't get as many comments as the dude mentioned in this post. I think I'm really okay with that. :)

As for finding your thing, just find something that interests you, that you can blog about regularly and then sort of turn it into a thing. Don't try to turn yourself inside out to be something that you are not.

I'm naturally nosey so Snackie Sunday made sense. :)

Hey, the most comments I've ever received on a post is 17 (yes, I just went and checked), so technically, you're only one comment shy of doubling me! :P

And when I think of The Princess Diaries, I think pink, fluffy, and sparkly. I don't think that's particularly useful to your quest, but that's what I think of :)

Becky- maybe we should start a community blog called "Nice but Dull"

MM- I don't seem to be thinking hard at all- I'm asking everyone else to! :P

Nat- Hmmm, I seem to be lacking in both of those departments. Perhaps I'll write about that.

Laura- those are awesome letters - I'll have to see who I feel like ranting at.

PsychG- test market? Why didn't anyone tell me? Where's the cool stuff?

Jen- Really I was just uninspired for a post last night, so I decided to get ranty about a "thing". I'm certainly not panicky about comments.

Hilly- I'm sooo not really worried about comments. I love my community here, and feel no neglect. But I do occasionally envy those of you who have something to plagiarize!

Froggy- I think 17 x 2 is 34 - so not quite at doubling yet! :P Just teasing. And yes, I'm way sparkly...

I have to agree with Alice. Sex is a seller.

Maybe you could start a new once-a-day thing. Once a day try something new, once a day come up with celebrity snark, once a day buy something unnecessary to stimulate the economy, once a day rearrange furniture and take a picture, once a day write a witty limmeric, once a day review a local restaurant, etc.

How about a Half-Naked Thursday: Winnipeg!

Every Thursday you could post a photo of what the typical scantily clad Winnipegian is wearing. I'm guessing a hoodie is pretty risque this time of year.

(Alright ... it's not a great idea, BUT, it is one more comment.)

How about "Flirty Fridays - 101 ways to get noticed by the opposite sex". They could be your ideas or someone elses, but you would try them out and post the results.

Hey, getting closer to 24 comments!

ah dude, I misread Chief Rock Chef's suggestion as 'Fisty Friday' Oweee.

lasa - That is funny!

Alice- Sex. That seems to be the theme. I can write about my lack of?

Galoshes- that sounds like an awful lot of work!

Delmer- I could wear a toque and scarf and nothing else maybe? Yeah, like that'll happen :P

Chief- hmmm, sounds like a recipe for rejection and plummeting ego to me!

Lasa- that one definitely won't be happening here! Maybe some other blog...

I loved the letter idea, wish I'd had it.

Do you really have OCD? I'd read about that.

Anonymous said...

Well if it makes you feel any better, I feel all sorts of special when I reach ten comments - and that usually includes my responses. LOL

I wish I had a way to help you but I have enough trouble with myself :)

Princess of the Universe said...

MDA: Sorry I missed you above. Thanks for the comment! xoxo

LuLu- sometimes I think I do have OCD, but then I get lazy and can't be bother with the behviour, so I guess not :P

Shelia: 10 is pretty awesome too. I'm really not complaining!

Blog evolve as time passes. You will find your scheduled niche or just keep blogging the personality I read here and you've got a winner!

Besides you have lots of support and that's what counts. Friendships can be very real in the blogosphere.

Sherri said...

I have never had a "thing" on my blog. I think it's because I can't concentrate on one thing for very long. Even if I begged I couldn't get 24 comments on my blog, so you're doing a pretty good job. :)

iasa said...

24! This isn't cheating is it and even so who cares.
