You'll Have to Call Back, I'm Eating M & M's Right Now..

So I have a list of foods that I've decided that I have to give up for, you know, ever.
I figure since I'm a slack ass, and just won't become a gym-goer, I better do something else, in the spirit of attempting to be all healthier and stuff...

So I'm thinking, what would I actually give up? I mean if I said that I would never eat chocolate again, that would just be laughable. I mean who would even say something like that? You may as well say that you're never going to eat bread or cheese again. Or try to convince me to only wear one type of mascara, cause that ONE is good enough. I mean obviously that's not true. Have my eyelashes ever looked like that supermodel's on TV? I mean really, who are they kidding?! It's a giant conspiracy of the cosmetics companies...

Wait, what were we talking about? Oh yeah.

So OBVIOUSLY something else had to go. Now I? Am a sweets person. If you were to tell me that I had to give up potato chips and pretzels and things like that? No problem. In fact I've probably already done it without any conscious thought.

So that's not really giving things up. Nor is it any kind of sacrifice. Same thing with something like coffee or alcohol. But is that going to stop me from adding those items to the list so it looks even more impressive? Not at all. It's all about psychologically tricking yourself people.

Things I will never eat and/or drink again:
- Coffee and it's associates- expresso, lattés, anything ending in "ccino"
- Beer, tequila
- potato chips

OK, now onto the hard stuff:
- french fries
- burgers and it's associates (that means you my beloved meatball sub)
- chicken fingers
- pizza

Now I've been telling a few people about this plan. My boss (an ex-Olympic athlete) simply found me amusing. My Dear Anon? Well, I could hear her rolling her eyes over the phone.

However it did lead to a discussion about what we could and couldn't give up. Apparently chocolate wouldn't be a problem for her. (Seriously? Why am I friends with her? Oh yeah, cause that means I don't have to share.) However, potato chips? Yeah. Non-negotiable. They are a staple of her diet. (Did I ever tell you guys about the time that My Dear Anon made her boyfriend call her back later, cause she was "busy eating chips"??) Her potato chips mean a lot to her.

We're both kind of on the fence about pop. I suspect I could give it up - but I would really miss ordering my Diet Pepsi with lots of cherries whenever I'm in a restaurant. Perhaps I'll put some guidelines around it - pop only when I'm at a restaurant, and only fountain pop. (I can justify anything if I really try)

I am curious though - about YOU. Chips or chocolate? Pop or coffee? What could you absolutely NEVER give up?

I pick Chips over Chocolate,
Pop over coffee.
Can never give up potatoes.....

Not too long ago I gave up all simple sugars, so that was bread and candy and pop, etc. I ate only fresh foods and never felt better. Even so, it's really hard to keep that up when your whole family is still bringing bad stuff into the house. I'm toying with trying the no-sugar thing again, however futile it may be.

The item that I can not resist at any time ever is bakery donuts.

I can give up coffee since I don't drink it anyway
WILL NEVER GIVE UP CHOCOLATE
I won't give up soda - but I have cut down - I drink less then one 8 oz bottle a day.
Won't give up paste meat - no prob unless I'm pms'ing then I crave steak.

Hmmm. . . this is torture. I mean, I used to HATE chips. Hate them. Somehow I've come around to their lovely ways and sometimes would rather have chips over chocolate. What is wrong with me?

I could give up both soda and coffee. I don't drink much of either anyhow.

Me? Truly. . . well, I'd have to say giving up alcohol would be the toughest. You know I like my vodka and wine. Come to think of it, I haven't had a drink in almost 2 weeks (WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME?!) . . .

I don't think I could give up cheese.

I'm not a never kind of girl... when it comes to food. I'm more into moderation.

I could never ever give up coffee or chocolate. I pretty much have some form of both every day. I love cookies... and sweets...

I have given up diet coke (the only soda I drink.) Still have it on occasion. And well, chips... I could go without for sure.

Sex. All of my pleasures in life can be traced back to sex.

I can't believe you're planning on giving up pizza AND burgers AND chicken fingers AND fries. What will you eat on I-don't-feel-like-cooking days?!

I'm like you with the sweet tooth. I could give up chips no problem but not chocolate. I could also give up pop no problem - in fact I probably only drink it once or twice a year as it is - but DEFINITELY NOT COFFEE. And I can't give up pasta and pizza either. I've tried, it's futile. But I HAVE discovered that half a Dr. Oetker frozen pizza + a side salad = a perfectly reasonable, fairly low calorie dinner, and I'm okay with that.

I made myself give up Doritos years ago. They're the only kind of chips that I cannot resist. So they are just not allowed in my house. Ever. For any reason. I will just eat them until they are gone.

I would NEVER give up coffee. Unless I had to for like, medical reasons. And then I would cry.
I can do without soda/pop, potato chips and candy, I can resist chocolate. But I loooooove bread and french fries.

I could give up chocolate - as long as you don't include chocolate cookies, ice cream and whatchamacallits. LOL

M&M's hershey's kisses, etc? I'd be fine with.

What I could absolutely never ever ever give up? Carbs and Dr. Pepper. I'm a carboholic - give me a loaf of crusty french bread and a tub of butter and I am one happy girl :)

I don't think I've ever met anyone who had enough willpower to give up all that you are so GOOD LUCK!'

You cannot take away my coffee; I'm a junkie.

I suppose if I had a good enough reason, I could give up anything. Like, if my doctor told me I'd blow up into a thousand pieces if I ate another french fry, I could give them up. Maybe.

Anon- hmm, so no giving up french fries for you then?

Sherri- Simple, complex - sugar is my achilles heel. Or something.

Rachel- done, if we ever meet a chocolate fest it is!

Jen- alcohol wouldn't be a problem for me at all- I just never really acquired a taste for it...

Suze- ohh, cheese or chocolate- I don't know which I would pick...

Nat- yes, moderation is best, but I just don't think I need some of those foods in my life anymore.

Dee- I would never dream of asking you to give that up!!

Laura- tuna melts are my lazy no cooking night. Or pasta - so easy...

AmyT- yeah, bread's another one that I would have trouble with. I have a love affair with sour dough...

Sheila- M&M's! Those are my happy treats! Dr. Pepper? Interesting...what about peanut brittle?

Nance- I kind of feel the same way about iced tea...

Faiqa- doctors orders are a whole other issue. Although I think if I was told to give up chocolate I would definitely shop around for a second, fifth and twelfth opinion!

This is hard for me. I balance my sweets with salt. But, I could give up the salt easier than the sweet. And, I can always rationalize that peanut butter cups have protein in them...so they must be good for you, right? And ice cream, that is dairy. I could go on. But, if I really had to give something up, it would be soda. I think:)

When I read your title, my first thought was "Mmmmm...peanut M&M's". Don't think I could give them up. I love chips and chocolate - so I can't even eliminate one of the groups. But, I feel like I can take hiatuses from them with only moderately brutal cravings.

I can't give up Coke/Pepsi.

I love chocolate too. And crisps! I don't drink coffee, though, so that is OK.

Back to the mascara thing. Over here they have to add comments and disclaimers to these ads. So a woman appears on the screen with huge lashes and a little line of text pops up saying "false lashes, computer enhanced in post-production" or something to that effect. And people still buy the stuff and expect it to look like it does on TV!

Humm this is a tough one.. I imagine I could give up ANYTHING if I put my mind to it...
However I am a sweets person. I just could NEVER give up sweets. At. all. Which I am sure is evident by the size of my ass...

And then I just remembered you have OLD DUTCH CHIPS! And I just about died. I could not give up old dutch. Now if I could only get my hands on them!!

Chips and chocolate are both non-negotiable for me. Especially tortilla chips. Yum!

I could also never give up coffee. Soda I could handle, as I rarely drink it, but I *need* coffee!

All that being said, I think cutting things absolutely from one's diet is kinda foolish--it only invites temptation. Whereas, "I will only eat pizza once a month," or, "I will buy small bags of chips and only eat one at a time for portion control" is a more even-keeled approach to dietary reform.

Just my $.02.

I'm so completely the opposite! I could probably cut out sugar for the rest of my life... but give up french fries? NEVER!!!

Does poutine count as French Fries? Or is it a totally separate dish? I'd say it's separate due to its exotic nature.

As for me, I'd have trouble giving up Oatmeal Raisin Cookies (which are always capitalized, they are so good).
